While most people are taking a vacation break from the August heat, small-business owners this week were hot on the trail of new opportunities.
‘‘A big part of our business is getting out and meeting people. It’s all about networking,” said Maureen Fitzpatrick, an independent consultant in Annapolis with Arbonne International, which sells health and beauty products.
Fitzpatrick was among the hundreds of entrepreneurial exhibitors at Wednesday’s Light Up Washington small-business trade show at Show Place Arena in Upper Marlboro.

I think trade shows are a fantastic idea! I am an Arbonne consultant and it so important to put yourself in front of people and market! Whether in person at a trade show, or online via advertising techniques, I have learned that getting seen by people is key to success! Instead of hunting people down until they beg you to stop, you should be using a marketing system to get pre-qualified prospects that actually seek you out and asked you what you do and how you do it.
Do you see this as a primary way of attracting attention to your product? Is this becoming a mainstream popular way of adding clients?
Trade show are about lead generation, but also getting your name out infront of a potential prospect. You have to not only market to the attendees but also the exhibitors. The exhibitors can be a great resource for a new company.
