Is The Network Marketing Old School Dead?

There has been a lot of talk recently about the death of "Old School" Network Marketing. I have been a vocal proponent of "The New School" along with Kim Klaver for some time now but I sense that the topic is getting fuzzy.
When I talk about the "New School of Network Marketing", I am talking about less hype and more substance. Some people have labeled the "New School", online marketing or Network Marketing 2.0 and they are throwing around terms like obsolete when referring to some methods like building in your warm market and in person meetings.
Here is the reality...I know a lot of people who still teach warm market and in person meetings and they make hundreds of thousands of dollars per year. In fact, one of the hottest companies in Network Marketing was reportedly in deep trouble before they found one leader who focused on getting the product into the hands of people and then getting the people to a meeting. As a matter of fact, I just thought of another company with a similar story.
Are things changing in the industry? Of course they are, but that doesn't mean that the basics of the industry have changed. We still move products through a network of people who make commissions on the sales of those products.
I am a big believer in Branding You, Web 2.0, Video, Funded Proposals and MLM Blogging, but if I saw a person at Starbucks with a high energy level and an attractive personality, I would talk to them!
It's all about Multiple Streams of Leads, including...
- Warm Market
- Cold Market
- Recruiting Professionals
- Funded Proposals such as Magnetic Sponsoring and Renegade Network Marketing
- Pay Per Click
One of the things that I really think people miss is that this industry is still about relationships. When I get a lead from something that I had done online, my goal is to get them on the phone with me as soon as possible. If they are local to me, I will do my best to meet them face to face. The tools offer me the ability to create a large number of leads, but the relationships hold the business together for the long term.

You hit this on the head. To many people are trying to put people into a box by telling them only one thing works and everything else is dead.

I love the old and new methods of working this business…
but the magic happens when you build a team focused primarily on one method.

I like how you talk of different ideas. It is appalling that we are still being taught the shotgun approach of going out to the mall or the bookstore i.e. to create "contacting storms". That's extremely inefficient IMO.

The beauty about the new system of conducting business is the fact that new people to MLM do not have to follow one set pattern. For those who do not have the personality or contacts for face to face offline business, or are maybe homebound due to disease or injury, having a proven online method of doing business is perfect for them.
But, I agree. Those energetic people people still have a place in the offline world.

Nope it sure isn't. I just made some awesome contacts today. I prefer "hot prospects" instead of "cold contacts"

I couldn't have said it better myself! There are so many good people in network marketing that you would have NEVER recruited on the internet in a million years!
A perfect example is the gentleman that introduced me to the company I'm currently with. This guy can barely type an email (in fact I ghostwrite his emails to the organization for him). Yet he qualified for the leadership bonus in his company in his first 60 days, has earned a full time income part time each years in the 3 years he's been involved and has only missed his leadership bonus qualification twice since he first qualified.
A gentleman in my organization that does 90% of his prospecting online is a perfect example of what you are talking about. He contacts people on social networking web sites, drives them to his web site, then picks up the phone and calls them to recruit them. He then invites them out to a meeting and teaches them the traditional way to do the business.

Exactly right about old school works in ways of being able to pick up the phone etc, But as a whole I will agree and I have been looking around for something different for a long time now and particularly in Thailand there is not much choice here let alone old school marketing to choose from but luckily I just recently came across a new group that deal with software marketing in mlm, they are http://www.mlmasian.com , you can download free software trials etc. Very Interesting stuff. But getting back to another point you made about are thing changing in the industry? well I can certainly say it seems that way in Asia now.
