Have you ever had a little thing lead you to a major breakthrough?

It happened to me this week.

On Tuesday I realized that the wordpress theme on this blog was (basically) broken.

Kind of a big deal, but really a little thing in the big picture.

So as I was figuring out whether to contract out a new design or create something myself, I spent a little time looking at my history in blogging.

I started blogging on the subject of Network Marketing in October of 2003, but I think I really hit my stride in mid-2006 on a site called Multileveler. At the time, I was actually blogging on three sites, two paid and one my own and Multileveler was a start up business blog network. Yes, I am actually a professional writer, typo maker, grammar rule breaker and all. Heh, I’m even published. I imagine that could make an academic’s skin crawl.

Reading some of my past work on Multileveler made me remember a couple of things…

  1. Consistency is key. No one is going to read your stuff if you post once a month.
  2.  Be you. The world doesn’t need another Ty Tribble, Kim Klaver or Ray Higdon.  The world needs your voice.  Be authentic and have fun.

If you are following along I went from “broken blog” to realization that consistent content and authentic voice are extremely important.

Then I thought about how I apply these two things to Social Media because a blog is simply not enough anymore.

Well, that led me to “the Google” at about 1:30am on Wednesday morning where I discovered Sandi Krakowski. We might get into how in the world I missed this (literal) social media rock star with over a million Facebook likers in the future, but for now I’ll just say I’m glad God led me to her. I seriously had no idea who she was until 2 days ago.

So the Google led me to Sandi’s blog and Facebook page and eventually led me to her Social Media Template. You can download it on her site, ARealChange.com

I won’t steal Sandi’s thunder, but I will say that my focus on creating a certain type of content for Social Media was a little off.  Bringing value to the marketplace is great, but when I looked back at really valuable blog posts I created, the shares and comments paled vs. a cool bible verse that I found that applied to life and business. Likes and shares of an in depth technical how-to video paled in comparison to the likes and shares of a motivational quote with a cool image.

You don’t have to be an expert to make someone feel good with a quote or an image.

How much of your content is encouragement, personal development and inspiration?
