Everywhere you look, Twitter, Facebook, FriendFeed, blogs and podcasts have become another way to communicate. Electronic media are now a part of our social fabric, and there are some who do it better than others.

On Nov. 6, the Social Media Club of Salt Lake City presented its first set of awards to technologically savvy Utah companies and bloggers. "We thought we should get together as a community and award those who make a difference in people’s lives," said club program director Pete Codella. "They are providing information and inspiration and a greater sense of community."

Local mangosteen juice company Xango claimed the Best of Show award, for its "very impressive online presence," Codella said. "It’s not just traditional media, they’re also using social media to spread the word."

The People’s Choice award, based on the number of members’ nominations, was awarded to The FredCast, a cycling podcast and blog by David Bernstein.
