Vue Weekly : Edmonton’s 100% Independent Weekly : Top 5 scam artists
Dick DeVos and Steve Van Andel are the inheritors of Quixtar, the company left to them by their billionaire fathers. Call it a pyramid scheme, call it multi-level marketing, or, better yet, call it by its original brand name: Amway. Quixtar created a pseudo-religion where God is money and its prophets are the success stories recorded in expensive tapes and books. Quixtar has convinced millions around the world that they too can make six figures simply by selling “the best” soap, vitamins and other amazing products, when the actual average annual income of a recruiter is $1400. Some even lose money at the cost of the recommended seminars and audio tapes.
Man, that is a shame. Amway was a pioneer in network marketing, it is sad to see people let greed get the best of them.

I would have to agree with you on that. I was personally involved with quixtar about 7 years ago and I still think my upline has not even come close to make any real money. I just believe that this company teaches old style's of marketing and just doesn't put its people in a win win situation. I think its a shame that so many people are losing their shirts when their are much better programs out there that can get people to make real money and teaching real techniques on how to build a business online and offline. Its Just a Shame!!!
What a ridiculous, biased post. Amway Global and its founders may be a lot of things, but a scam artist isn't one of them.
The Amway opportunity has been around for nearly 50 years as a leader in the direct sales industry. A mulit-billion dollar company thats debt free, privately held with no stock holders (which I'm sure a lot of companies wish they were right now.) They've been environmentally friendly "green" before Al Gore was out of diapers. And they make their products here in the U.S. of A.
Everyone has their opinions, but I encourage people not to fall prey to the negative critics of yester-year and keep an open mind to whats going on with this business model TODAY. A renewed commitment to improving every facet of this business. A revamped comp-plan, new cutting-edge products, an impressive advertising/image campaign, and the list keeps on going.
I've been an IBO with this opportunity for 9 years with some great success. Both personally and financially. And I'm more excited about this opportunity than ever before! I'm not paid to give my "positive" feedback of the company, I just feel its important to share both sides of the story.
Amway is still pioneer of networking marketing and largest MLM in the world.
Many years ago, Amway has already won the case that it is not a pyramid scam, everyone need to work, its plan reward according to how much time you put in. Its a fair plan, 4 million people in the world cant be all stupid for 50 years.
I'll be the first to say that Amway isn't my personal cup of tea. But, Amway is a business model that works, IF YOU WORK IT!
That's the real difference between a network marketing company and networking scam. You can work your brains out at a networking scam and it still will never pay off.
Amway should be proud of it's business and of its longevity. It's a real company!
Congrats on 50 years guys, may you have 50 more!
Really, I mean our government is slow but it amazes me to know people think no one would have caught on to this “scam” by now.Disney,Barnes and Noble I guess all of their people missed out too huh?? Its funny my husband and I started our business less than a year ago and we are actually putting effort in and treating it like a business and we have made great money! Its un believable that you can not find people who will admit they put nothing into it and thats WHY they failed!! I have watched people in this business who do not follow help offered to them, dont know how to speak to people and do nothing but complain not more forward but yet the people who do the work move forward is that a scam really? And the whole you only make money from tools amazes me also, why dont you do your homework on mentorship and see what anything else would cost you! And show me someone who is going to teach you and show you how to be better at something then they are and more successful and what would their intentions be free time?? Giving back to society maybe yeah ok. Why do doctors intern, why do teachers teach, why do people go to therapy? These people busted their butts and are helping you save time and you are going to complain about a $4 cd or function? Outside of the business the entire educational system has made more changes in mine and my husbands life if we walked away tomorrow it would still be worth it. So for all of you people who complain about tools why dont you become the first in the business to become even platinum without it and then you can make free cd’s and hold free functions and tell people about it
I have tried so many other businesses out there for the past 15 years. you name it. I have attended numerous Real estate foreclosure seminars, numerous opportnity seminars, T-shirt selling, selling credit card machines, clothing deals, engage in foreclosure type deal, only to lose $ from empty promises to empty promises. One RE seminar by Tom Vu, I paid $9,000 for it in early 90’s. it turned to ashes. I had a very negative impression on Amway (input from ignorant friends and family) without proper investigation on the opportunity. it is sad it took me 15 years of searching, and just to find out that Amway is indeed a perfect business. I started with only $200 (its a joke really), and put serious effort into this. Can you imagine a business without any rent pmt, no employee, no major inventory, have mentor to guide you, and it can “crawl” to literally 70+ countries without you physically being there, and your network of distributors IS your assets and every income stream flow sthrough it is will-able to your estates or beneficiary?
I was out of work for many months. Thanks to Amway. My small team of 70 +people which my wife and I have built helps us sustaining our income in difficult time. For thoise of you who is looking for the Real business. Keep searching. it may take you another 15 years just to find out which one is the real scam and which one is the Real business…..be careful who you listen to…check the fruit on the tree.
When 99.9% of employees lose money rather than making any, it’s time to call a scam a scam and a cult a cult. This cult is an assault on poor people, it makes them zealous and then the bottom drops out. Amway encourages debt, albeit credit card debt, and is obviously run by narcissists/psychopaths because while the less than 1% rich are admiring their own reflection in the mirror, they’ve forgotten about the over 99% who lost their asses and reputation.
