I want to start this post off with a quote from "The Truth About Quixtar":
Only thing I can imagine is that this company, endorsed by Dr Phil, was
promoting some products, which apparently were crap, and they got sued.
As a settlement to make everyone happy, the cash pays for all the
lawyers, and the Nutrilite must go to all the customers to replace the
crap products?
The pieces to the puzzle that I am about to lay out are huge on a number of levels, first some background.
There was a news report not long ago about Dr. Phil’s Shape Up! diet products and a class action lawsuit. The settlement for this class action included $6.0 million of Nutrilite® Daily Multivitamin/Multimineral, 6-month supply, and $4.5 million in cash.
Odd that Nutrilite would be part of a settlement for another "crap product", right?
The answer to that
guttural query can be found not in news accounts (at least not any that
we saw) but rather the settlement agreement posted on the Web site
shapeupsettlement.com. There, it’s revealed that neither Dr. Phil nor
CSA were the ones ordered to shell out, but rather Amway parent company
Alticor.According
to that document, Alticor will provide $4.5 million in cash and $6
million in Nutrilite products to disgruntled users of Shape Up! The
product was taken off the market in 2004.
Why is Alticor (parent company to Nutrilite, Quixtar and Amway paying a settlement for Dr. Phil’s Shape Up! diet program?
Apparently, the Shape Up! products were made by Nutrilite.
Mike Mohr, Alticor’s General Counsel, about Amway’s involvement, (in an e-mail sent in October of 2003) wrote:
"I
think that if any reporter digs we all need to be right up front and
proud (without waiving [sic] the Amway flag). The Amway flag is a two
edged sword for both of us. We have reputation problems that are common
in the direct selling industry. We absolutely do not want that to
attach to you in any way. Moreover, the same psychotics (in our
business and on the web) that create our reputation problems will use
powerful communication tools and undue influence to damage our
businesses …"
Cutting Out The Quixtar IBOAI aka the "psychotics"
I like the part about labeling the people in the business along with the people on the web as psychotics. One would assume that he is talking about the IBOAI Board, who in my opinion should have a serious problem with Alticor going behind their back to produce (and apparently bankroll) a product line that is not being sold through the network of IBO’s.
The Quality of Nutrilite Products
It seems apparent that Nutrilite manufactured these "crap products" for Dr. Phil’s Shape Up! program. Now there is a class action settlement paid for by Alticor on products that were sold as, "scientifically researched levels of ingredients that can help you change your behavior to take control of your weight.".
What does that say about Nutrilite’s Science and Reputation?
Dr. Phil at Quixtar Live in 2003
While this Alticor/Dr. Phil behind the scenes go around the Quixtar IBO business deal is going down, Dr. Phil was speaking at Quixtar Live, telling Quixtar IBO’s what a great business opportunity they have.
Tune in tomorrow for information on the Dick DeVos connection, the FTC and more.
I said "apparently" the products were produced by Nutrilite.
Where do you think the products were made if Alticor backed the whole operation and 2 Alticor employees where on the CSA management team?
I'm sure that more is coming.
Got any evidence at all Nutrilite produced the products Ty? The settlement indicates that CSA Nutraceuticals was connected with the Allan James Group. The Allan James Group was recently purchased by Interleukin Genetics, which is owned by Alticor. Alticor was not a part of the original lawsuit, but is a part of the settlement. If they purchased The Allan James Group after the lawsuit was launched, they automatically become party to the suit, even if there was no connection at all to the original case.
Where's your proof Nutrilite made the products?
Funny question – got any proof Nutrilite made the products? Um, what do you want, pictures of the manufacturing facility putting the supplements in the Dr. Phil boxes? I know for a fact that they did make them (Alticor contract manufactures for lots of companies, why not Dr. Phil's, especially given the tight relationship). The reality is that Dr. Phil did push the envelope on claims, and Alticor suffered for it. They are so concerned about their reputation (and doing the right thing, actually, in this case), they tried to nip the problem in the bud to make it go away. Check the back of a shape up box – it says manufactured by Access Business Group. Is that proof enough for you?
hi!
this post may get different types of reactions regarding multi level marketing. in college my boyfriend was recruited by this company (which i will no longer mention, since its already closed after 2 years of operation) he paid almost 10 gran for membership and was not able to get it back. since then, i swore not to even hear about networking! i never thought i would end up working for one though! i am currently connected with HDI NETWORK PHILS INC. (formerly HIGH-DESERT PHILIPPINES) we are an MLM company. i am not discouraging or encouraging everyone to join. i would just like to point out that there is a company that is not after the distributor's money. HDI Network has never been involved with scams of any sort. the products really does make a difference! to the point that even US Presidents Bush, Sr., Bill Clinton, Reagan used our products. even Sr. Senator Tom Harkin was amazed with the product, that he financed the study for Alternative Medicine at the National Institute of Health. (you may do your research on this) you see, our products originated from the US this is why they have access to it. we are very proud of our products, because it does do wonders especially to those who cannot afford to bring their loved ones to the hospital. the business side is just an addition on top of the benefits they get from our supplements. the reason why i am posting my comment here is because i would like to invite you to check us out. i am not asking you to sign up, all i am asking is for you to see that not all MLMers are scammers. we are launching our Business Club, and yes, we claim that this is the best MLM opportunity that you can venture into. i was once a victim of pyramiding, and i shall never stay and be with this company had it been a scam. i am asking you to check us out, you may call or visit our branch at 3f unit 302, Jollibee Plaza Bldg, Emerald Ave., Ortigas Center, Pasig City. 6352431 or 33. i also encourage you to check out our website. http://www.hdinetwork.com

I need to Know if this info is true, by the way
Access Business Group, a division of Alticor, owner of Amway made the products:
From another article…
“In its promotional materials, CSA Nutraceuticals, the company marketing the diet products, says they have been “developed by a team of health care professionals, nutritionists and food scientists using the latest research and the highest quality ingredients.” Asked what health-care workers and scientists participated, a company spokesperson replied: “CSA Nutraceuticals has recruited some of the world’s leading manufacturers of nutritional products to create [Shape Up!]. The manufacturers include Nelson Nutraceuticals, Access Business Group and O-At-Ka.”
Nelson, Irwindale, Calif., is a maker of snack bars and other health and nutrition products. Access Business Group, Ada, Mich., is also a manufacturer and distributor of such products as Nutrilite and other brands for Amway Corp.’s Quixtar unit, and O-At-Ka is a New York dairy cooperative.”
