I thought this was pretty funny.
A couple of days ago, I posted a video from a MonaVie rep. talking about how MonaVie helps him with his Lyme Disease. The video was posted on YouTube and one of the comments said that following:
"who said there is no cure for Cancer Logon to the monavie, com and use
ID # 580838 from the Enroll to get ur health better,Cancer no more"
So I posted the comment as well. (An obvious illegal claim).
Then I get the following comment from a MonaVie rep reader:
This isn’t the first sensationalist comment you’ve made simply to draw
attention to yourself. And every time I follow up, I find nothing of
substance.
OK, let me get this straight. One MonaVie rep. goes on YouTube talking about Lyme Disease (and there are dozens of other videos talking about Arthritis and other ailments) and another rep. posts their ID number saying that MonaVie is a cure for cancer, yet I am the sensationalist?
That’s funny.
Quote me on this:
If MonaVie doesn’t get a handle on this illegal claims, the FTC and FDA will get a handle on it for them. That can include hefty fines, lawsuits and shutdown.
Update: The video that started this little exchange has been pulled from YouTube. Someone is apparently listening.
Ty,
You know damn well that any network marketing company that doesn't reign in these types of statements is headed down the Mannnatech path of spiraling success.
Xango's SRI (Success Ratio Index) declined 285% since their FDA intervention and Mannatech's fall is one for the books–they will not survive much longer.
It is clear to me that the leadership of MonaVie doesn't quite understand the landscape of the internet and how it will ultimately lead to their demise if they don't purposefully respond.
Ty, you have ascended to be a top industry resource and should be hailed by the DSA as a watchdog.
The problem is EVERY company has distributors making claims. Some just aren't as public as others. My company has them…your (Ty) company has them…every company has them. I spoke with a local distributor from your (Ty) company about a month ago and the claims she made sounded the same as any other distributor claims from any other company. Her (your) products apparently also CURE every disease known to man. I see more and more trouble ahead for everyone in this industry because of this issue…again…with distributors from EVERY company…mine…yours included. So the question is…what does the companies do about it? What will the FTC and FDA eventually do about it? What do we as distributors do about these renegade distributors?
I can tell you for a fact that the company I am involved with talks about what you can and can not say all of the time.
They screwed up early on and paid the price in both fines and loss of momentum.
Based on the amount of claims that I see on the Net about MonaVie, I'm guessing there isn't much talk about compliance and claims at MonaVie functions.
The reality is that the company leadership can be mesmerized by the volume that these claims produce. So they might turn a blind eye, but in the age of the blogs and YouTube, the claims are now out in the public.
What would I do?
I would call MonaVie and have them kick these clowns off of YouTube.
If a rogue distributor threatened my livelihood, I would get involved ASAP.
Your personal paycheck with MonaVie can be drastically and negatively affected by these people.
Just to be clear Ty…I'm not with Monavie. The company I am with also talks a lot about compliance and has full time compliance officers that monitor all aspects of the web every day. My company and your company (Ty) are good companies and I just hope the companies that do not monitor their distributors do not ruin the industry for all of us. If I had the card of this local distributor with your company that made all the kinds of claims these monovie people are making I'd give you her name. But I met her at a health expo and did not get her card or even her name after she started making all the claims.
I know that there will be rogue distributors saying goofy things, but with MonaVie, I see a pattern. In my opinion, it's beyond rogue.
I will do a post about why I think this way…
