According to a scientific study on PubMed.org, Acai Berry Juice has less antioxidant value than pomegranate juice, Concord grape juice, blueberry juice, and black cherry juice.
But the one that really struck me was the fact that Red Wine tested higher in antioxidant value than Acai, (the supposed miracle berry and "highest antioxidant food in the world).
The study used three different methods to look at the antioxidant value (prepare for science-speak):
1) four tests of antioxidant potency [Trolox equivalent antioxidant
capacity (TEAC), total oxygen radical absorbance capacity (ORAC), free
radical scavenging capacity by 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH),
and ferric reducing antioxidant power (FRAP)]; (2) a test of
antioxidant functionality, that is, inhibition of low-density
lipoprotein (LDL) oxidation by peroxides and malondialdehyde methods;
and (3) evaluation of the total polyphenol content [by gallic acid
equivalents (GAEs)
Here are the results from the study in order overall antioxidant potency:
1. Pomegranate Juice
2. Red Wine
3. Concord Grape Juice
4. Blueberry Juice
5. Black Cherry Juice
6. Acai Juice (the key "miracle component in MonaVie)
7. Cranberry Juice
Another interesting quote from the study:
"…there is also consistent clinical evidence of antioxidant potency for the most potent beverages including both PJ (Pomegranate Juice) and red wine."
PLEASE keep in mind that there are several types of acai juice. The type MV uses is a proprietary blend that is freeze-dried, the stuff they tested is what you can find on many store shelves that has been processed entirely differently, thus diminishing the ORAC score.
But Mona Vie is not just Acai… it is blended with cranberry, blueberry, pomegranate, grape, and a ton of other fruits.
So it's specious to say that Monavie scored under pomegranate etc. when it's really "acai" (juiced, probably, not whole skin, whole pulp, etc. like in Mona Vie) that scored under those fruits.
For example, a banana is not healthier than a smoothie made with banana mixed with 18 other fruits just because it's higher in potassium. Acai juice does not equal MonaVie and using them interchangeably in your arguments is just going to mislead people.

If a company has a product with great health benefits, it would help all of its distributors if they would do some clinical studies to back it up. Provide some scientific data.
"Proprietary blend" can be a smoke and mirrors game. I'm not saying that is the case with MonAvie, I have no data to back it up. It seems to be good product. I would just be more convinced with clinical trials.
Rick
Elaine,
How in the world do you know what they tested?
It never amazes me what people will say if they truly believe that a company is their key to success. They will deny all of the facts and logic in order to push their dreams forward…sadly some of the people will push forward even if they go off a cliff.
Are there any published studies on the health benefits, if any, of monavie?
Or are the supposed benefits purely speculative?
yeah purely speculative as far as the 10's or 1000's of people drinking it every day and getting between normal to extremely evident health benefits. (sarcasm layed on really thick). The thing is I seem to be meeting tons of people every day who are healthier because of drinking wine. ("not" getting drunk and stupid either) Good grief Ty, you're really starting to scare me with your gullibility here. Oh and one last thing.. Orrin Woodward is stupid.. spread the word.
Mona vie makes Newsweek – in a rather inauspicious way:

Ty, can you please link us to the actual study so we can read it for ourselves?
Hate telling people that "someone said this", rather than having the link with the original information directly "from the horse's mouth" to show to people.
Thank you.
There is no direct link to the article at Pubmed.org, but you can see it by going to the site http://www.pubmed.org and searching for "acai orac"…
If actually read the study you will realize that it is talking about acai juice; Monavie is made with freeze dried acai, which has been published in a peer reviewed journal with a very high orac on a gram to gram basis. The article is "Antioxidant Capacity and Other Bioactivies of the Freeze-Dried Amazonian Palm Berry, Euterpe oleraceae Mart. (Acai) in the Journal of Argricultural and Food Chemistry. This study was done with input from the USDA. Look it up in PubMed. Acai juice is what you find added to the ocean spray, POM, Jamaba Juice, Robek, etc. Publishing statements about Monavie and this study that included Acai juice is irresponsible. If anything, the study bolsters Monavie and other quality products because it is not acai juice, which is the point….it is better than that.
Coming from someone who went kicking and screaming to MonaVie, with a muriad of health problems due to a surgery 3 years ago. It has changed my life. It did what pharmaceuticals & physicians could not. If you have ever had health issues that could not be resolved, you will do anything to get your health back once you have lost it! You want scientific data to back up clains made by comsumers & distributors, there is plenty. You want more? Just wait it is coming later this month!
I have had a fantastic personal experience with Monavie.
You see, I wasn't always the good boy during my 20's. All my endless nights of partying eventually led to a bad case of recurring herpes and an STD which later gave me Parkinson's.
I tried everything to heal myself.
Everyday I ate a cup of fresh blueberries, drank LOADS of freshly squeezed pomegranate juice, cranberry juice, noni, goji, mangosteen, and puree from freeze-dried acai pulp.
I would drink atleast 10 ounces a day of each and every one of these fresh and natural juices. But nothing seemed to help.
3 months ago, a friend gave me some Monavie. Well, needless to say that after 2 weeks of drinking ONLY 3 ounces a day of Monavie, my Parkinson's disappeared and NO MORE HERPES!
The point is that 3 ounces of this amazing pasteurized fruit juice from concentrate, with its additional preservatives, can do wonders that fresh fruit and 60 ounces of fresh-squeezed were never able to do.
WOW! Who knew?
Just a point in logic from someone who has spent over 80 hours reading everything I could get my hands on about MonaVie on the internet. Whether it is science or faith based it is clearly had a impact on tens of thousands of lives. The science is there and if you are capable of being objective and open-minded then it would present it's case and you would bring a real debate issue to this forum. Something that helps, cures or otherwise benefits anyone even if the product did nothing for you, is something give respect to. I used it for 3 months as recommended and as a healthy young man expected very little but I got a lot. Good health costs money but I assure you bad health costs much more, Just ask your Doctor.
