When I first heard the words “You’ve Been Hacked”, my heart sank.
And the worst was yet to come.
Luckily my main site MLMBlog.net was backed up. I use the word “lucky” loosely because it cost me nearly $2,000 to get it fixed (including my lost revenue from downtime).
But that wasn’t even the worst of it. You see this malicious hacker hit me via my (former) host and knocked out every single site I had up online….it was a full scale disaster. My TyTribble.com site that was averaging 400-600 unique visitors each day was done to zero in no time flat. Yep, The Google doesn’t like you spreading malware across the Internets…so my site was quickly gone from the search engines.
Wait, I’m not done.
The larger issue was the fact that TyTribble.com had not been backed up properly and (you guessed it)…I lost everything. Years of hard work down the drain with the simple push of a button by a spineless no-name hacker. I had to start my site all over from scratch.
Since that fateful day, I have learned a lot about WordPress Security and lately I have noticed that there has been an increase in attacks on WordPress Blogs.
But don’t worry my blogging compadre, I have a solution for you.
My crack tech-team has put together a video course that will walk you through the strategies that I use to protect myself from hackers, malware, brute force attacks and more.
It’s the kind of simple, step-by-step stuff that my subscribers love and this time it’s all about protecting your hard work from the bad guys.

Hi Ty,
Security is a key point for all WordPress users and your post plays a great role of as a reminder to all us.I was taught my earlier stage to take into high account that aspect of WordPress settings.
Thank you for sharing your experience and remind us of the possible danger. It is healthy to be vigilant.
Cheers,
God bless.
Celestin.
Ty, that must have been devastating when your WP blog was attacked. My heart goes out to you…
Ty, this is absolutely horrible. I cannot imagine how you must feel and the work you had to do to get yourself back on track.
I guess there is no way to catch this guy?
One question: Do those who are at wordpress.com have less exposure as these type of sites are not under the owners control and self-monitoring like your wordpress.org site?
I’m not sure about WordPress.com being hacked, but there is a big trade off with WordPress.com…you don’t own your site and it can be taken away from you at any time.
Jeez that’s just downright scary! I’d hate for that to happen to any of my sites when so much time and effort has gone into them. This is why I regularly backup my wordpress sites and have a security plugin setup. But it’s true that it seems to be happening a lot more lately. So may be time to look into upgrading security…
That’s just crazy Ty! As a newbie blogger, that it really good “FYI” for me. Thanks for sharing! Glad things worked out and your back in the game.
this was actually a great post! My blog was hacked about 4 days ago and I was randomly surfing the net and this popped up in a search. Some good tips in here, Ive installed a plugin .. bulletproof something or other, forgive my forgetfulness.
Its to do with locking the wp-admin area and reinforcing the HTaccess.. Im not server smart, but will get a mate to install it. Never the less, WordPress as good as it is.. its hackable.
Check out the national geographic documentary on Youtube about hacking, its crazy what these guys can do and in minutes.
One hacker cracked a UK bank, he said the root access password was “control” .. makes my money feel safe LOL the internet is a wonderful place, but scary at the same time.
Security will always be an important factor when you’re doing business online. And it does not stop with hacking, you are also more at risk of a scam from all those credit card fraud out there.
This article is gives good information about security in wordpress where wordpress is the most used blogging platform.
You can use some good plugins to add addition security to your site.
I know how this feels. When I read this post it brought back painful memories of when my WordPress blog was hacked. I remember how angry I felt and what I would do to that hacker if I ever found them.
Never did find them, and probably never ever will as we all know!
Anyway, I never really did get back into WordPress because the experience of being hacked and having all my hard work destroyed, in a moment, kinda left a bad taste in my mouth.
