The first thing people are taught when they get started in Network Marketing is to “build a list”. Today’s version of building a Network Marketing email list is very different. It used to mean get out a sheet of paper and right down every single person you can think of.

The problem with a traditional list is twofold.

  1. Not all lists are created equal. In other words a 30 year old doctor has a different list than a 20 year old high school dropout.
  2. Traditional name lists have a finite number of people (prospects). I found myself clamming up and procrastinating when I got near the bottom of my names list.

Everything changed for me when I started using the Internet to build my list. Without a doubt, building a list online is the single biggest game changer for Network Marketers. This skill took me from never making more than $200 profit in a month to a six-figure income in 18 months.

Let’s take a look at the basics of building a list online.

The Network Marketing List Building Process

It’s actually a pretty simple process:

You trade something of value (like an eBook, video series or “how to guide”) for a person’s email address. That’s it. The “thing of value” is sometimes called a “lead magnet”.

A lot of people overcomplicate the lead magnet because they feel like they have to create something. Creating a lead magnet that perfectly aligns with your target market is a great but don’t get hung up on creating the perfect lead magnet right off the bat.

My first lead magnet was actually a PDF of Napoleon Hill’s ‘Think and Grow Rich’. The PDF book was in the public domain so there was no copyright on it – I could give it away freely, even though I did not create it myself. Others found value in the PDF, so they were willing to trade their email address for the book.

And my list began to grow.

The Tools To Build a Network Marketing List Online

Now let’s take a look at the tools you need to build a Network Marketing list online.

Email Autoresponder – this is what you use to send emails to your list. Some choose to create a series of emails that go to every prospect automatically and some marketers choose to create emails on the fly. Both strategies have merit.

There are many options when it comes to picking an email autoresponder. Here are a couple of good email autoresponders and one to avoid:

In the long run, Aweber and other autoresponders will cost you a lot of money because as your list grows, the price grows.

Network Marketing Page & Funnel Builders

The next tool you are going to need to build your Network Marketing list online is a lead capture page builder.

This is what you use to create a page where your prospect enters their email information in exchange for your lead magnet.

If you are price sensitive, it’s easy to see how your page and funnel builder can take up your budget in a hurry.
